A Week Away From My Family

“Peace out hubby…you got this,” is what my husband thinks I said when I left for Texas School of Photography in April, as I loaded my bags up and prepared to head out to Dallas, Texas for the week. This would be the first time in forever, for myself and not work related (well not corporate America work related) I decided to attend a week long training to level up my photography skills.

Hi, I’m new here…

As I drove towards the The Renaissance Hotel in Addison, Texas, I wasn’t sure what exactly I’d be expecting. Sunday-Friday of full on, in person education with all day schedules, with photographers from around the world. Wait…and did i mention, I only knew ONE person, my roommate, who I met on facebook and was hoping wasn’t a murderer or more importantly she didn’t snore at night! It just so happens, as I arrived and parked in the parking garage, I ran into my roommate, who in fact turned out to not be murderer or snorer. Day 1 was awesome with a night class, that went past my bedtime, but really helped me dial into my why and set the tone for the rest of the week.

Be a POSER

I was so excited to take part in Elizabeth and Trey’s class because I really wanted to nail down posing and after talking to other photographers, this was the place to be! Day one was filled with lighting, posing, and practicing! We had the opportunity to watch Elizabeth and Trey work together and the models were incredible.

Time to Practice

Day two was filled with in studio set ups. We literally transformed a Holiday Inn meeting room into a full on studio! It was quite amazing! Elizabeth worked her magic with the ballet dancers, and I got super tired just watching them hold each pose. We practiced more lighting with a family session, took a brief lunch, and came back for a night class, where we were able to practice a family portrait session.

Work…Work…Work…

The last 3 days were filled with marketing, sales, and prints, labs, senior sessions, portrait sessions, and anything else photography related. It was so much information to take in, but it was all so great and at the end of the week, we had a graduation ceremony.

Not all work…

There was some play involved. We were able to watch Emerald City Band perform at Red River, and if you haven’t seen them…you’re missing out! They were incredible to watch perform and it was such a great time. There was also a pajama parade and party with various photo ops set up. We had a trade show night where we were able to check out different items from vendors, and we had a night of learning and with our classmates. I met some really incredible people at Texas School and I’m glad I decided to take the leap and attend.
