Ready…Set…Go!

So here it is…live (online) and in living color…my first official website! Who knew in just a few short months, I could sit down, buckle up, become a sponge (a scrub daddy one of course…and if you haven't tried one…what are you waiting for?!?) and create my VERY OWN WEBSITE! I even managed to put my name on it. Shout out to all those years of teachers telling me to put my name on my paper!

—Ready—

Have you ever had an “ahh-ha” moment…where something just went off inside of you and you just all of a sudden got clarity? Can you pinpoint that date? For me, it is May 6…and not because I spent the entire day drinking margaritas…which let me tell you, I most certainly did not! I in fact, spent the day doing quite the opposite. Working for a liquor distributor selling one of the top tequilas has its perks for sure…but with great power comes great responsibility I once heard, and this responsibility was managing a team of sales reps with five brand new team members and an open manager position, mixed along with whatever cold my children decided to pass on to me. I won’t bore you with the details but let’s just say I spent Cinco de Mayo passing out margs and sippin’ DayQuil to feel better. May 5…was a rough day. May 6, however, bring on the “ahh-ha.”

I’ve spent NINE years in the liquor industry. It was pretty amazing graduating college and already having a full time job…and I must admit, as a fresh college grad, selling booze for a living is pretty awesome. Of course, as I grew older and started a family, I knew I wanted something more, something to call my own, and I really felt like I never quite knew what my calling was…or what exactly I wanted to do.

May 6, after binge watching the Selena Netflix series and of course googling all the facts because yes I 100% am that person…I decided I wanted to take my own “Selena Boutique Path.” It’s crazy…she literally knew nothing about starting a boutique and the girl freakin’ did it y’all! I was going to start MY OWN photography business

I’ve always had such a passion for taking photos…in fact, when I was in high school I was part of this technology group (really wish I could remember the name…ugh must be a sign i’m getting older) and I would take pictures make a frame and my photos would compete alongside others from schools around the city with 35mm film! In college I bought the popular rebel camera but really never used it for more than a paper weight…who has time to learn that…no one has time! When my son was born, again like most photographers start out, I upgraded this camera to a Nikon D7000…took a few photos, learned a little bit more, but again…new kid new camera…the kid won every time. I had ALWAYS read photographers really don’t earn a great living and eeekk…I need money to pay the bills and it must be true…obvi…I read it on the internet!

It’s crazy how much you can get done if you really and truly put your mind to something. If you ask most people why they can’t do something, the response is usually… a. time or b. money, luckily for me, I have a vast amount of both…NOT! Time and money, boy do they play a vital role in a lot of things, but WILL and DETERMINATION wow…they can do A LOT!

So…what’s the quickest way to learn photography? Youtube and photography for dummies…just kidding! I honestly don’t know, but i’ll tell you the path I went down…podcasts (The Beginner Photography Podcast…then Flourish Academy, Hair of the Dog Academy), which led to photography groups, which led to joining a photography program (The Flourish Academy and Elevate-Hair of the Dog Academy) and although the later of the learning came with a price tag, I was okay with it…because I was investing in myself and of course…taking pictures!

—Go—

If you’ve made it this far, first of all thanks, you’ve survived my first blog!

Want to know a secret? This site has been done for a few months now, but I had been making excuse after excuse as to why it wasn’t published…I need a good head shot, I need to write the best opening blog, I need more pictures, I need to reshoot this image, I’m waiting till I get back from vacay…EXCUSES. Want to know what was holding me back? FEAR!!! Fear y’all…like what if I publish the site and people hate it? What if I publish the site and I book a client and they hate their photos? Our brain naturally wants to hear what if (insert negative thought) to protect us…well, thanks, but no thanks brain…I suppose I'll take it from here.

But…what if I publish the site, and people love it? What if I publish the site and someone who’s just found their first puppy love wants to capture every moment of their new puppy? What if it’s the last few days of our best friend has left? Most importantly, what if I publish the site and get to spend time doing something I love to do, while at the same time helping someone create lasting memories.

So here it is, live and in living color…

now, please go book a session!
